Adrija Aleksiunaite: A Young Leader Shaping a Fairer Future
“I feel truly happy knowing that I can create a positive change for students, especially girls my age.”These are the words of 17-year-old Adrija Aleksiunaite, the recipient of Zonta District 13’s Young Women in Leadership Award – and already a role model in her community. |
| As chairperson of the Student Council at Alytus Dzukija School and an active member of the Alytus City Student Council, Adrija discovered early on her natural talent for leadership. Since then, she has worked tirelessly to turn her drive into meaningful impact. |
| Her most ambitious goal today is to improve the quality of life for students in Alytus – especially girls – through volunteer work and advocacy. The Alytus City Student Council, the city’s only youth-led organization, plays a vital role in amplifying student voices, addressing their needs, and promoting real change at municipal level. |
| Tackling Period Poverty and Promoting Equality |
| One of Adrija’s key initiatives is a proposal to the Alytus City Municipality to provide free menstrual products and comprehensive sexuality education in schools. |
“Menstrual hygiene products are not accessible to all students due to financial constraints,” she explains |
The consequences are serious. Girls miss school, experience stress, and feel socially excluded – all of which affect their education, confidence, and mental health. Adrija believes that ensuring access to free menstrual hygiene products would not only improve girls’ well-being and participation in school life but also help reduce gender-based inequality. She also advocates for structured sexuality education as a vital tool for dismantling harmful stereotypes, preventing gender-based bullying, and reducing unplanned teenage pregnancies. |

| A Leader Who Inspires Action |
| Adrija is widely recognized as a strong and compassionate leader who inspires her peers, supports volunteers, and helps her team navigate challenges with confidence. Among her proudest achievements is bringing a long-held idea to life: organizing the LMS Summer Forum, a five-day national youth event to be held this August. The forum will gather students from across Lithuania to strengthen youth engagement, foster collaboration, and build leadership skills. |

Adrija’s worldview has always reached beyond her hometown.

| Her ambition is to study International Business and Communication at ISM University of Management and Economics – and eventually contribute to solving global challenges. |
| By lifting the voices of young people, challenging inequalities, and showing what passionate leadership looks like, Adrija Aleksiunaite embodies the spirit of Zonta. She is not only building a better future for girls in Alytus – she is inspiring young women everywhere to believe in their power to lead. |
